My mom, my brother, and I were the ones with house responsibilities, while the cats had absolutely nothing to worry about. At the time, I didn't really question the arrangement. Now that I'm an adult with a job and bills to pay, I can't help thinking that Odette had life figured out long before I did. She never had to worry about deadlines, grocery prices, or setting an alarm for work. And if I'd put a little tie on her, she would've looked like the CEO of the whole operation. Which brings me to another question... What would a cat put on its resume?

A cat's resume would be something like:
Excellent communication skills (screaming at 5 AM until someone serves breakfast counts)
Great attention to detail (especially on food bowls that are half full)
Ability to work independently (working independently means deciding when to nap and how many naps they can take in a day)

Cats already behave like they're running a business, so they would only send their resumes to top positions. CEO, Supervisor, nothing below that. They were born to supervise. They inspect every grocery bag that enters the house, supervise the cleaning process and demand urgent explanations whenever a door is closed. They even have their own version of performance reviews. If dinner arrives five minutes late, they'll make sure everyone knows.

Sometimes I think back to those days with Odette and realize how much we humans do for our pets without expecting much in return. We feed them, clean up after them, buy them toys, and rearrange our lives around their needs. And we do it gladly, because watching a cat enjoy the comfortable life we've given them is a reward in itself.
